Held across Paris and Moulins, France, from January to October 2025, the residency combined in-person immersions with online gatherings that allowed the process to continue long after each session ended. It grew out of the Being Together project, developed the year before by Ricardo Dutra and Arawana Hayashi with a school in San Francisco.

At the heart of the residency was the question of how we might craft pedagogies that foster togetherness, explored against broader societal challenges: increasing fragmentation, the weakening of social bonds, a perceived loss of collective agency, declining trust in democracy. Participants reflected on how practices of togetherness might be cultivated with young people, across schools, universities, and other educational contexts.

Forty-five educators, artists, changemakers, and teachers from fifteen countries opened the residency with a three-day gathering in Paris, hosted by Anne-Sophie Dubanton. The gathering introduced participants to embodied practices of awareness-based collective creativity, building a shared foundation through experiential exercises before the group dispersed.
Three months later, the residency reconvened for five days at Foyer Michaël, a Waldorf-Steiner teacher education centre in Moulins. Mornings were spent in embodied practice; afternoons belonged to prototyping, participants designing and facilitating small sessions for one another, testing ways to bring togetherness into their own schools and classrooms, then refining their ideas through the group's feedback.                  
Prototyping didn't stop when the residency in Moulins ended. Participants organised themselves into an online community, forming groups around the themes that had emerged, and reconvened online in May and October to reflect on how their ideas had evolved in practice.
What emerged in Paris continued to grow long after the residency closed. A grant proposal drafted during the programme became the WellSpaces Network, now an independent initiative funded through Erasmus+. The hosting team that formed during the residency learned to facilitate a social art residency together, a practice they have since carried into residencies of their own across France, Finland, and the United States. The prototypes tested in Moulins also became the foundation for the Helsinki residency, where they were further refined into the Crafting Pedagogies of Togetherness curriculum, now an open resource for educators working with young people.
